A number of people at EnCana Corporation formed a Toastmasters club in January 2002 and were chartered June 20, 2002. Since then, new people have joined from a wide cross section of businesses in Halifax.
With Toastmasters, we learn by speaking within a group and working together in a supportive environment. We meet every second Wednesday in the summer months at the Halifax Port Authority. Each meeting runs from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm and we start and end on time.
Each meeting gives members, and guests (if they wish), an opportunity to practice public speaking. Members practice by conducting meetings, giving impromptu speeches, presenting prepared speeches, and offering constructive evaluation.
How do we benefit? To name a few - increased self-confidence and self-esteem, personal growth and leadership skills, career development; plus a lot of fun so we all will be able to:
- give better presentations
- be better managers
- work better with fellow employees
- effectively develop and present ideas
- offer constructive criticism
- accept criticism more objectively.
The Toastmasters dues are due every six months and is pro-rated to the month you join the Club. If joining in April or October, the dues are $45 CDN for six month period.
